Colette Paris has closed after twenty years

Founder Colette Roussaux shutters the brand after two decades.

Updated, December 21, 2017: Colette has officially closed its doors, with shoppers spending the store's last day browsing the shelves for the last time.

After announcing it would shutter in July of this year, the iconic Parisian boutique bid goodbye to the city, with founder Colette Roussaux describing to news outlet France24 her sadness at the closure.

"We’ve received so many heartfelt messages. Colette has inspired so many people. People aged between 15 and 35 grew up with this very special place that is all about curiosity and open-mindedness … Unfortunately I think its closure will leave a void in Paris," she said.

July 13, 2017: Cult Parisian boutique Colette will close its doors in December, twenty years after founder Colette Roussaux opened the brand in 1997.

The brand announced the news on Instagram overnight.

“As all good things must come to an end, after twenty wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20th of this year,” the statement read.

“Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and Colette cannot exist without Colette.”

The three-story boutique is located on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris and is considered a must-visit shopping haunt for the fashion world.

The statement said Saint Laurent will likely take up the iconic space after doors close on December 20.

“Negotiations are under way with Saint Laurent and we would be proud to have a brand with such a history, with whom we have frequently collaborated, taking over our address. We are happy of the serious interest expressed by Saint Laurent in this project, and it could also represent a very good opportunity for our employees.”
